Darrell “Sol” Rodney Solomon Sr. passed away on June 13, 2021. Darrell was born on November 26, 1957, to the late Albert and Anna Solomon. He graduated from Steubenville High School, attended the University of Arizona, played nose guard, proudly wore jersey number 62 for the football team, and earned a Fiesta Bowl ring. He pledged Kappa Alpha Psi in college, and their nickname was “Pretty Boy Crispy Cream.”
After college, he worked for 32 years for the city of Steubenville’s wastewater department. He loved football so much that he coached flag football for Lincoln Elementary School and the Steubenville Tigers. Darrell was a huge Steeler fan. He also was a faithful member of the Second Baptist Church in Steubenville. Other memberships include serving as a Mason brother and a son of the American Legion for years until his illness. Darrell won many awards, including the Calvin Jones award, for two consecutive years.
He was preceded in death by his daughters, Sharnay Solomon and Alious Harris, brothers Michael and Kevin Solomon, sister Karen Walker and Aunt Jimmy “Porg” Daniels. Mr. Solomon was husband, brother, father, uncle, cousin, and friend.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife Karen Solomon, son Darrell R. Solomon Jr., a loving sister Marsha Mills of Columbus, OH, and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a great-niece. He will be missed by everyone that remembers his laughter and smile.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at 10 AM, with a service starting at 11 AM at Vinson Mortuary, 711 North Fifth ST., in Steubenville, OH.
