Stanley Cecil "Stan the Man" Brown, 74, departed his earthly life on November 26, 2020, at home. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., to the late Jesse Brown, Sr. and Ina (Edwards) Brown.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Robert Platt, Jr.
The family moved to Steubenville, Ohio in 1952. Stanley attended Grant and Steubenville High School where he played basketball and was on the track team. In the 1950s, he joined the Beal family and sang with Richard and they started a singing group called BBB (the three B"s). In the 1960"s, another group was formed called the Stereos where he played guitar and sang. In 1965 the Stereos released a song called the "Stereo Freeze" and Stanley was an integral player. In 1967, Stanley became a part of the group, the TNT Flashers. Stanley traveled with the TNT Flashers all across America. Stanley met Curtis Mayfield and wrote the lyrics to the song "Little Child Runnin Wild". In 1974 they met with Barry White and the group name was changed to White Heat and their first album was released in 1975. Stanley returned to Steubenville in the 1990s and in 2000, the gospel group "The Chosen" was started and Stanley chose gospel over secular for his lead guitar and his voice.
Stanley previously worked for the Wintersville Drive Inn, the Jefferson Metropolitan Housing Authority, and the Second Baptist Church.
Stanley was a committed member of Second Baptist Church, where he played guitar for all the
choirs and sang with the Sons of Second, the Voices of Second, and New Day.
Stanley leaves to cherish his memory his Godson, Kory (Megan) Aronson; sisters, June Bowden and her fiancé David Barker of Steubenville, OH Torchee Smith, Steubenville, OH Rita Hewitt, New Jersey; brothers, Jesse "T.C." (Sandy) Brown, Sharon, PA. and David "D" Herrin, Steubenville; OH, Kenny Hall, Detroit, MI; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 5, 2020, from 10:00 AM-noon, Service starting at noon all at Second Baptist Church, 717 Adams Street Steubenville, OH.
COVID guidelines will be enforced, and masks will be mandatory.
