Virginia Myrtle Harris Peterson, 80, of Wintersville, OH. Virginia was born on October 25, 1940, in Bradley, OH. She was the daughter of the late Thomas W. Harris, Sr, and Christine “Hemphill” Harris. Virginia was one of fourteen children holding the ‘baby gin’ position in the family. She graduated from Smithfield High School. Later, Virginia retired from Jefferson Technical College.
She shared her hearty laugh and contagious smile, but she never minced words. She generously gave her opinion, for that she was an inspiration to all that knew her. She loved holidays and family gatherings; through her selfless dedication, she knew what was needed and did not disappoint.
She fought a long and valiant battle against cancer and heeded the call from our Heavenly Father to go home to glory on August 31, 2021.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters and nine brothers, her beloved husband of over sixty years, Ernest W. Peterson, a son Ernest Wendell Peterson Jr., and a daughter Virginia Lynette Gillian,
She will be mourned by her brother Clarence (Elizabeth) Harris, daughters, Ernestine Mixon of Steubenville, OH, Lori A Devore of Spring, Texas, son Jonathan E. Peterson of Pittsburgh, PA. Grandchildren, Sean Bridges, Edward Servin, Veronica Evans, Julia Gilliam, Vanessa Gilliam, Justin Gilliam, Greg Peterson, Tamara Warren, and Kristina Washington, Sister-in-laws Valgean Peterson, Martha (Charles) Miller, Tyrone, Linda Hines, and brother in law Tyrone (Linda) Brown. Special Nieces Carrie Anderson and Selena Antoniou, and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation begins at 11 AM on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at Vinson Mortuary, 711 North 5th Street in Steubenville, OH, with funeral services following at noon.
COVID protocol applies. Mask wearing will be mandatory.
